In today’s world where rents soar high,

Inflation makes our dollars cry,

A caduceus staff in urban guise,

With rats entwined, a truth belies.

No serpents here in ancient lore,

But rats, New York’s own mythic core,

Their wings not of the gods but rats & birds,

The city’s term for pigeons heard.

Atop the staff, a burning heap,

Of money flames, our wallets weep,

And fire escapes from buildings tall,

Reflect a wish for simpler call.

Through humor’s lens, the woes we face,

Are met with laughter’s warm embrace,

For in this jest, a truth we find,

That joy can ease the troubled mind.
