July 2014

July 17th was one of those days that felt unreal.

Anne Hathaway casually stopped by my setup & bought three pieces.

Before she bought anything, I was sketching my Einstein tattoo. She was watching for a bit, taking it in. She said “Why is Einstein frowning?” I paused to answer, she replied herself, “Maybe he knew too much.” I smiled, stood up, & proceeded to show her the rack.

The wild part? I didn’t even realize it was her at first.

Annie was dressed super low key; very flowy, very understated; no “celebrity energy,” no entourage chaos; just calm, friendly, present. The vibe was so normal that my brain never even went to “this person is famous.” It just felt like another great interaction with someone who genuinely liked the work.

We were talking, laughing a bit, and everything about it felt easy. “Annie” was warm & polite; the type of interaction that makes you remember why you love doing this in public; because you never know who’s going to connect with the art.

Then near the end, as she was about to walk away, this European tourist came up & asked me to take his photo. Perfect timing. I took the picture, everyone’s smiling, the moment had that light little New York magic to it, like the city was winking at me.

And right at the very end, as she started to leave, it clicked.

That’s Anne Hathaway.

She walked away with my work in her hands, smiling, & before she disappeared into the city, she told me, “I’ll see you again.”

No dramatic exit. No scene. Just a smooth, quiet little brush with greatness; the kind of moment that hits you after it happens. One of those memories that sticks forever; not because it was a celebrity; but because it was such a clean, kind interaction.
