Un vs Trump post card (released 2017)
My 2017 artwork here is a playful and satirical depiction of a hypothetical boxing match between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, titled “The Sound and the Fury,” referencing both the personalities involved and their international rhetoric at the time. The poster, designed in the style of a vintage fight advertisement, features the two leaders as cartoonish boxers ready to square off, with Kim Jong Un labeled as “Rocket Man” and Donald Trump as “Covfefe,” both referencing notable insults and catchphrases they used during their exchanges in 2017.
Billed as “The most explosive manchild package in closed circuit history,” the poster leans into the absurdity of the confrontation, emphasizing the “lightweight with nukes” aspect of each leader. The additional matches include humorous political pairings, such as Bernie Sanders versus Kamala Harris, with a nod to my accurate prediction that Sanders would be undermined by the DNC, and a “playfight for the ages” between Nancy Pelosi and Paul Ryan.
The overall aesthetic is bold and vibrant, with red and yellow tones giving the piece a high-energy, almost carnival-like atmosphere. The absurdity of the matchups and the over-the-top language used in the promotion make the piece both a political commentary and a humorous reflection of the tensions of the time.
