New York City Arteries (2017)

Personal take:

I walked by the giant subway map countless times on the Union Square L train platform. Staring at it in its glorious large format state- I was enamored, much like many other things New York. It was and is truly my heart, the opportunity the city brings; the function & disfunction alike. The fact these very subway lines depicted in the illustration saved my life. Selling my prints and sketches in the train, the entrepreneur mindset combined with street smarts & avoiding confrontation. No other city would’ve provided that independence and opportunity. It allowed me to sketch & sketch & sketch while I was above & below ground. I even got decent at sketching while selling my work. It kept me young with a heart of animated gold. So it took me some time, but a tribute to New York in the form of the very subway system that was keeping me alive at the time- was inevitable. 

Artistic take:

New York City Arteries represents the blood pumping trains throughout the Most Trauma Afflicted (MTA) transit system. Without this system, or blood flow, there is no New York City as we know it. It’s a beautiful system, the heart and transit system alike. Marvels of the modern world in collaboration with nature’s human heart. It’s one of the best ways to show your love for the city that has provided so much to so many.
