Deadskins post card
Deadskins post card
This is my creative fusion of two iconic cultural references: the Grateful Dead and the now-defunct Washington Redskins football team. The central image features a skeleton wearing a vibrant, feathered headdress, reminiscent of Native American motifs traditionally associated with the Redskins logo. However, the skeletal figure adds a Grateful Dead twist, invoking the band’s signature imagery, often centered around skulls and psychedelic art.
The headdress is brightly colored with shades of purple and pink feathers, which contribute to the psychedelic feel, along with a circle framing the figure. The bold, stylized “Deadskins” text at the bottom combines the names of both influences. This mashup recontextualizes both the Grateful Dead’s countercultural aesthetic and the Redskins’ controversial history, playing with themes of legacy and cultural symbols in a visually striking way.
The combination of a skeleton, vibrant colors, and the mix of styles gives the piece a rebellious and irreverent tone, harkening back to both Redskins and Grateful Dead.
