96 Bulls post card
96 Bulls post card
This is my tribute to goats- Picasso & Jordan. Released on Picasso’s 145th birthday. “96 Bulls” is four rows of Picasso’s 11 bull studies (Le Taureau) from ’45-46’ on either wall with four additional studies on either side to add up to ’96, the year of their fourth championship. The Jordan 11s are a coincidental layer, one of many in this composition.
Nearby, a basketball court and triangle-offense diagram merge with a bull’s anatomy. Both disciplines find expression through spacing & balance.
The Carolina-blue number 23 jersey recalls Jordan’s beginnings while creating a visual conversation with Picasso’s “Blue Period” & The Old Guitarist. That painting’s home at the Art Institute of Chicago anchors the connection geographically. The miniature sculpture echoes Picasso’s monumental work in Daley Plaza, while Jordan’s statue at the United Center provides its sporting counterpart. Two absolute bulls of their discipline, displaying the apex of talent in the 20th Century. (2026)
